How to Mitigate the Caution Signs of Stress

Find ways to take the foot off the gas pedal

As an overachiever, stress can be a daily part of life.  As a Joychiever, you must be vigilant about managing it.  It’s too easy to simply bounce from stress situation to stress situation, such as from work to home to work, without any break in between.

At times in my life, I willfully ignored or reasoned away all of the stress signals that my body was sending me—thinning hair, heart palpitations, insomnia, fatigue, irritability, alcohol overuse.  How about you?  Is your body sending you signals that you have to get your stress under control?  Your body was not built for continuous overloads of cortisone and adrenaline.  You have to allow it to recharge and rebalance in order to survive.

You could begin by stepping away from your smart phone for periods of time, such as for 30 minutes over dinner with your family.  Or create boundaries so that work doesn’t bleed (every day) into your home or social time.  Or actually BE on vacation when you happen to take one.  Or ensure that you incorporate exercise or laughter into your regular routine. Both of these activities release chemicals that combat the cortisol and adrenaline.

What can you do today to take your foot off the “stress” gas pedal?  How can you get a handle on your stress before it does anymore damage to your health?
